I'm not quite sure of the composition of the material; however, it does look most like so Syroco plastic wood - used extensively in other pieces in the 60s and 70s. Or perhaps some kind of resin? It could be a nicely painted plaster, but I do not think so. The detail is too exact. Overall, nice piece.
