Vintage Folk Art frame with lots of hand-carved details in
stained wood.
Known as “tramp art” and made popular in the late 1800s,
these carved folk art wood pieces were made using found things, old wood,
bottle caps, and cigar boxes.
This frame is a wonderful example of carved rough wood put
together with glue and old square head nails to form an extended square.
Each of the four corners has carved maple-type leaves,
showing old square head nails attaching them to the frame.
The inside area of the frame has a plaster-type rim painted
in gold; this may have been added during the Victorian period to add a bit of
color.
This gold area has places of wear, and small scratches due
to its soft surface.
