FOR SALE

Vintage Claud Butler Majestic touring bike.Circa early to mid 1980's,just one owner prior to myself and barely used!
10 speed,Suntour VX gears,Reynolds 531 lightweight Touring frameset,Weinmann centre pull brakes,Brooks saddle.
Seat tube measures 56cm from centre of bottom bracket to centre of crossbar.

A perfect Eroica companion this summer!

On offer here is a splendid, very original Claud Butler Majestic. The Majestic model was introduced to celebrate the Queens Silver Jubilee and proved very popular as the model continued well into the 1980's,maybe even 90's?

You could argue it was Claud Butler's rival to the Dawes Galaxy with a very similar spec of a full Reynolds 531 frameset,Suntour VX gears,Weinmann centrepull brakes,an SR chainset and Regina Corsa rear freewheel.A quality bike of it's time.

The example we have here was purchased from it's original owner last year. The story being that it,along with an identical but smaller framed example were bought for the owners sons,in the mid 1980's.However,this was just as mountain bikes were becoming popular and the sons were not so impressed! As a result neither of the two bikes saw much use and this one in particular was said to have had very little use.
Having just completely stripped the bike down, cleaned and serviced it,the cleanliness and general lack of wear bares this story out.

During the strip down the bike received new grease in the headset and bottom bracket and new grease and bearings in both wheel hubs. All other items were checked, cleaned and serviced as required.New tyres were also fitted on reassembly and a nice, used Brooks saddle from my own stock fitted. The original saddle is available if required.

The frame has been cleaned and polished and a few, minor paint chips/marks touched in.It has to be said however that the frame and paintwork are in excellent order with very few marks and no corrosion. The bar tape is original and in good order as are the original Weinmann brake lever hoods, which have no signs of perishing as most do have by now.

As a result of the recent work the bike now looks and rides very nicely indeed. It's free from rattles and knocks, the gears work smoothly and the brakes pull the bike up nicely.

Overall a lovely period steel Touring bike, with just one previous owner and a full strip and rebuild,it presents very nicely and rides exceedingly well. Now ready for new adventures and tours with it's new keeper.
