This photo is from The Doctor's final season. Erving was the star player of the ABA with the Virginia Squires and the New York Nets. He also won the ABA MVP in 1974-75, sharing the award with George McGinnis, and won it solo in the ABA's last year in 1975-76.

Dr. J led the Nets to their 1st ABA Championship in the 1973-74 season, defeating the Utah Stars four games to one in the finals. He was awarded the MVP trophy for the playoffs that season as well. He led the Nets to a 2nd ABA Championship two years later in 1975-76, the last year of the ABA's existence, also winning the playoffs MVP award.

Erving won one NBA Championship with the 76ers in 1983. He won the MVP award in the NBA in 1981.
