Fluorite Crystal Cluster Display Specimen with Calcite and Siderite - Boltsburn Mine, Weardale

A super display specimen of Flourite from Boltsburn Mine in Weardale. The specimen has well formed clear to pale green and purple zoned Fluorite crystals up to 18mm. The crystals sit on dark brown Siderite, along with clear Calcite crystals, some of which are double terminated.

As is typical of most Weardale Fluorites, there is a difference in colour between natural and artificial light due to its property of fluorescing under UV light and the pictures show the crystal under both types of light for comparison (the last 8 photos are in natural light).

The Fluorite crystals measure up to 18mm on the longest edge. The cluster as a whole measures 10.5 x 9 x 5.5cm and weighs 575g. (All weights and measures are approximate).

This piece comes from the later working of the Boltsburn West levels after 2010.
