ANDREAS BAUER Meerschaum Bowl Calabash Tobacco Pipe

This vintage tobacco pipe is a true gem for any pipe collector. This meerschaum bowl calabash tobacco pipe is a masterpiece crafted by ANDREAS BAUER in Austria; a premier tobacco pipe maker since 1908.  Of Vienna, Austria, Andraes Bauer was known as the finest meerschaum pipe maker of his time winning numerous awards for excellence in quality and design.   His calabash meerschaum pipes were some of the finest ever made with carefully cultivated, selected and curved calabash gourds.  Calabash gourds are each cultivated and gown to have a curve, and each one is different.  The taper of each varies, and for some the tapered end is wider than others.  With this pipe, the gourd tapers down to about 5/8", thinner than most and then to the briar stem holder.  The calabash gourd curve is elegant and is well proportioned giving this pipe excellent eye appeal, as well as a nice feel in hand.  The pipe holder case once had a clear thin plastic top that fell to pieces years ago, but I kept the base intact as seen in the first photo. The stem is made of hard rubber and the mouth piece shows no bite marks except for one tiny dent.

The intricate design and attention to detail make this a true Sherlock Holmes tobacco pipe; a unique piece that will make a conversation starter. This is a great addition to a tobacciana collection and will surely impress even the most discerning tobacco pipe enthusiasts.

Lastly; I purchased this pipe new at a very hefty price in the early 1970's and have kept it since, smoking it a few times decades ago when I was in college.  I have cared for this pipe for over 50 years in my memento display case, not using it since my days in college 50 years ago.
