Smart is a street fashion magazine published by Takarajimasha, a Japanese magazine founded in 1996.

At that time, Takarajimasha was publishing Cutie, which started out as a male version of Cutie.

This is from a time when Harajuku wasn't as lively as it is today, and it's linked to the time when Ura-Harajuku was booming, so you can feel the smell of those days.

It's also the time when NIGO from A Bathing Ape and JONIO (Jun Takahashi) from UNDER COVER are opening their first select shop called Nowhere. GOOD ENOUGH, a brand started by Hiroshi Fujiweara and Skatething, was gaining popularity.

On the other hand, brands such as 20471120 and Beauty:Beast from Osaka were also extremely popular with fans from different demographics.

People who were influenced by Japanese street fashion in the 1990s are currently active at the forefront, including Kim Jones, Virgil Abloh, and Kanye West.


This magazine is the May 1997 issue and is the 16th issue in total. Street fashion magazines from the 1990s are valuable and sold at high prices in Japan.
