This wool yarn is not superwash so it may shrink if machine washed. It is best to gently hand wash in your sink using dishwashing liquid such as Fairy.  Squeeze the item in a towel to remove excess water and hang to dry.

The natural dyes are created using plants, leaves, flowers, tree barks and minerals that have been used and tested through the ages. Naturally dyed colours fade gently yet remain beautiful.
Some of the dye plants that I use to create the many shades of the rainbow are:
Reds: Madder root, Brazilwood, Cochineal, Sandalwood
Yellows: Weld, Fustic, Dyers Greenwood, Flame of the Forest, Osage Orange
Blues: Indigo, Woad, Japanese Indigo
Purples and Greys: Alkanet, Logwood
Greens: A blend of Yellows and Blues

All of my Indie Art Yarns are dyed in small batches, making each yarn unique.  I use a zero-waste dye method I use rain water collected in a rain barrel for the dye baths. When there are small amounts of dye pigment remaining in the dye vat, I pour this into another dye vat so no dye is wasted.
The yarns are pre-mordanted using natural alum or tannins that prepare the yarn to absorb the natural colour pigments.

All yarns are hand washed, dried and rewound after the dye process is complete. There may still be some residual plant residue in the yarns that will naturally fall off.

I love to dye rainbows of colour using natural dye plants. The beauty of using natural plant dyes, is that all of nature's colours are unique yet harmonious, so you can mix and match them together. Not to be repeated. Naturally dyed yarns yield softer shades of colour than synthetic dyes. Natural dyed yarns will also gently fade over time, but the colours still remain beautiful. I hope that you will enjoy creating something new with the yarns as much as I have enjoyed making them.

I hand dye yarns on a continual basis in small quantities. Each yarn  is unique and not to be repeated. Please check my other listings for different colours of natural dyed yarns. Please note that the colours may look different depending on your computer monitor settings.

I combine shipping costs - differences >£1.00 are adjusted.
