LÖTZ ART NOUVEAU VASE
OPAL WITH BLACK ETCHED DECOR

Vase on a round stand, slightly bulging towards the top with a slightly flared, flat mouth rim, opal-colored underlaid glass with black overlay, high-cut etched decoration with bluebells and geometric lines on a satin background.
Design commissioned by the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, Vienna.

DECOR:
Colorless glass with an opal white base, model-blown, base and mouth edge ground and polished, black overlay, decor etched in two steps, surface finely structured like hoarfrost.

DESIGNER:   JOSEF FRANZ MARIA HOFFMANN (1870 Pirnitz - 1956 Vienna) Austrian architect and designer, graduated from the State Trade School in Brno, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Karl von Hasenauer and Otto Wagner, founded the Vienna Secession together with Josef Maria Olbrich in 1897, and became a teacher from 1899 the Vienna School of Applied Arts, co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903.
