This lot consists
of a large bound notebook compiled by J. Carter, Executor of the estate of
Grace M. Bliss in 1899. Bliss appears to have been a resident living in or near
Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Carter
went out of his way to give a complete inventory of her property and the value
of each individual piece, including one mirror, one carpet, 3 rockers, potatoes
in cellar, one bell, one wheelbarrow, one bookcase, one bed and bedding,
etc. He also kept a record of the
sale of individual items from the property, no matter how small. Including
fruit dish, salt box, looking glass, etc. including the date of sale and the
names of the persons who bought the items. The notebook also contains other items such as a family
record of Joshua Smith Bliss, born in 1780 and his wife, Grace Porter, born in
1784. The beginning of the book is
a miscellany of essays on corn, the Great Barrington Fair, a sketch of Abraham
Lincoln, the wedding of Adam Smith and Georgia ----, etc. This notebook comes in a purple
hardbound cover and is in very good condition, well-bound and clean pages. Wonderful family or regional
history. I hope that this finds
the right owner.
