These Amish made platform beds are hand crafted of solid pine by the Amish in NW Montana. No need for a box springs with the sturdy platform base on this bed. Unique laser woodburned design on the headboard, makes this bed a very pretty piece of furniture. VERY stout bed with no creaks or groans once it's assembled. The headboard comes fully assembled.
We choose to work with lodgepole pine as it grows naturally in the forests of NW montana and is known for its superior strength to weight ratio. It is also straighter, thus making it easier to work the raw wood into the highest quality furniture possible. Our lodge pole pine is harvested in the Kootenai National Forest via a very selective process. Skilled woodsmen select each tree with an attentive eye toward the quality, straightness and size of each specimen. After felling, each piece is hand carried to the road to ensure both the tree and the environment remain unharmed. Then each log is hand peeled, using the skip-peel method where some of the inner bark is left on, creating a beautiful rustic piece of furniture for your bedroom. There is often some checking in the logs which is a natural occurrence with lodge pole pine, but it does not affect the strength and durability of the bed. It actually adds character to them.
