During Notre
Dame’s National Championship season of 1988, they featured one of their six Heisman
trophy winners on the cover of each of their six home games. Johnny Lujack was on the cover of the Purdue program
(September 24, 1988). Coached by Lou
Holtz and led by Tony Rice, Rocket Ismail and Ricky Watters, the Irish crushed the
Boilers.
The program is
in excellent condition. There are no
creases, no marks inside, and all pages are intact with no dog-ears. As you can see in the photos, the cover raises
up just a little bit although all the pages lay perfectly flat.
Because of the
glossy finish on the cover, a paper tape was adhered to the front and Lujack
signed there. I am the original owner of
this program; although there is not a COA for this item, I personally witnessed
Johnny signing it during the 1989 season.
He often showed up at the Ramada Inn to participate in a WSBT radio
broadcast on the morning of home games and was easily accessible to fans. Mr Lujack, the 1947 Heisman winner, passed away this past year.
This program is
an original, not a reproduction. All
photos show the item that you are buying. If you have any questions, feel free to ask
since there are no refunds.
