For Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rest is not an art book—it is a coffee table book. Compiled in the wake of the release of her 2017 album of the same name, Rest is a scrapbook of work created during the production of the album, her first one to be written in French since the release of her debut album, Charlotte for Ever, in 1986.

In this black-and-white compilation of photographs and illustrated and photographic self-portraits, lyrics from Rest are superimposed over images in the artist’s handwriting, and bring to light the process of creating, editing, and producing a musical work surrounding the deeply personal themes of family, loss, and grief.
