22” XL 2008 Salsa Mamasita

Located in SLC, UT for local pickup or will ship via Bikeflights.com at buyer’s expense (Likely cheaper than the eBay estimate, up to you.)

Fantastic condition for a 16 year old frame. There’s a good amount of chain slap wear on the drive side chain stay underneath a protective wrap but nothing that affects the structure. Carbon seat-stays provide a smooth ride for a hardtail. Currently running a rigid carbon fork for around town use but has had suspension in the past and rode amazingly on single-track. Shimano XT BR-M775 hydraulic disc brakes. Shimano RD-M771 XT 9 speed drivetrain 11-37T. Race face cinch cranks. XT BB 30 threaded bottom bracket. Mavic C29SSMAX (Crossmax) Tubeless ready wheels and Maxxis Crossmax 2.1 TR tires currently running tubes. Rear tread at 50% with some sidewall rash (why I’m running tubes for now) front is 90% with no issues. Brakes flushed the first of this month and new hoses. Specialized phenom seat still very comfortable. Thomson elite seatpost. Salsa moto seat clamp. Salsa rustler bars. Lizard skinz clamp on grips. Bontrager water bottle cage light plastic. Specialized 105 riser stem. Ready for a front derailleur but I prefer single. Could easily be upgraded to 11 speed on the HG hub but I’ve never needed more than 9.

The bottom bracket is higher than modern frames and the headtube angle is near vertical compared to modern “slack” designs so it’s fast, twitchy, insanely fun in tight twisty forests, and has near no pedal strikes when pushing hard uphill. Watch that the front wheel doesn’t hit your toes in slow speed turns and lean wayyyyy back over the rear tire when descending. Things get rowdy quick.

This is an awesome around town commuter bike and was a beautiful XC bike before I moved the suspension fork to my wife’s bike.

Weighs 22.9lbs

Am I crazy? Why am I selling a 2008 bike with components that were considered outdated in 2010 for the amount I listed? Because it’s worth it. A built race 29er in it’s day, it retailed for $3200! It’s a fantastic bike and rivals any modern gravel or ultralight XC hardtail bike you can buy today for the same price. And you can work on and replace any components at home with basic tools. You’ll feel the same way when you ride it.
