Pitcher Plant Growing Kit - Nepenthes sanguinea

Nepenthes sanguinea is native to Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo and New Guinea. This vine grows on the mountainside at an altitude of 900-1800 meters, so it is a high altitude Nepenthes. It usually grows like a vine, climbing plants, and can also develop as an epiphyte. You can grow it in a hanging pot indoors, in a greenhouse or in a terrarium. Excellent for beginners. The leaves are long and cascade down. They develop in a rosette from a central stem and end in tendrils. Tendrils serve to support the plant as it grows, and trap doors develop from these tendrils. The hatches first develop like a blister, to reach their adult size in a matter of weeks. As the plant matures, the stems become long and the hatches turn shades of red and reach 8-9 inches long. The hatch opens and lets the digestive fluids appear at the bottom of the hatch. Preys are attracted to the colors of the trap and the nectar secreted under its cover and around the entrance to the trap. The hatch cover does not close. The hatch is very smooth, when an insect is attracted to it, it cannot remain gripped there and slips inside the hatch. The nectar is also very intoxicating. The lower part of the hatch is covered with digestive glands that quickly dissolve the softer parts of the insect, the rest sinking into soup at the bottom of the hatch. The plant has two kinds of hatches, lower and upper. For some species the 2 traps are alike, for others, they are so different that one would think of 2 different species. The top hatches are usually smaller than the bottom ones, often they have no wings and they are attached to the tendrils from behind. The upper tendrils, before forming the upper hatches, wrap around objects to support the rod. Nepenthes are dioecious, the male and female flowers are on different plants. If you have multiple plants, you will be able to pollinate the flowers. Hardiness zones 6-10THIS LISITING IS FOR A KIT WHICH INCLUDES 5 SEEDS AND 8 OUNCES PERFECT GROWING MEDIUM TO GET STARTED.
