Talbot Winfrid Ellison (1875 - 1947) was a cartoonist working for various publications such as Newcastle Daily Chronicle and Birmingham Evening News

This is a pen and ink of two cartoons back to back on the same card.  The first is a scene of a motorcyclist speeding by a sleeping policeman.  Has a clip from a newspaper attached 'The present exhibition contains motor-cycles that will be among the most silent vehicles on the roads'.  Interestingly the motorcycles has the registration plate AD 1935 which I assume to be the date of the drawing.  Somebody has added a footnote in light pencil 'at Olympia'.

On the reverse is another cartoon of an anthropomorphic lion dressed in clothes, standing on a cliff looking out to sea.  The lion is shouting 'CARRY ON DAD'.  has a newsprint clip attached ' Mr Mackenzie King, the Liberal Prime Minister, has secured a sweeping victory in the Canadian General Election'.  There is crossing out of the remainder of the text.

What an excellent artwork and cartoon!

On the reverse is Ghilchik's Hartwood Rd. address and a price of £1.10.

Besides my collection of motoring art I have always gathered non-motoring cartoons over 45 years alongside the reference for my website about motoring art and artists -  www.motoringart.info.

As I reach the age of 80 it is time to sell so everything must go!
