This item is a beautiful THE Martin Committee trombone built sometime around 1945-1946. The serial number is 150505.This is made by the same craftsman that made those legendary WW 2 era Martin Committee Model trumpets, at the same factory, with the same raw materials.
This truly "Vintage" instrument has been professionally serviced, thoroughly cleaned and sterilized, tuning slide lubricated, hand slide aligned, and a new water key cork. All minor dents were removed. It includes the unique, original style mouthpiece with all silver plating intact.
Here are some unique features of the Martin Committee Model trombone that you can see in the pictures
- No balancer on the bell section (the braces serve as a balancer) Picture #6
- Square shaped "in line" water key - Picture #7 and 8
- Invisible hand slide lock (Each cork barrel looks exactly like the other) Picture #11
- Uniquely shaped mouthpiece - Picture #14
Here are the negative issues:
- There were two small dents in the bell flair that were removed - Picture #4 - This, of course affected the lacquer in those small spots.
- The lacquer is also worn off in a few areas where the horn was usually held by the player - Picture 13
- Both inner slide tubes have some worn plating on the ends. This is not affecting the slide action which is as smooth as glass even without lubrication - Pictures 9 and 10
- The case exterior is in very poor condition. The hinges were pulled loose and had to be reattached in a different location and the shell itself is damaged. The hasps and lock and handle are intact and function normally - Pictures 17-20
- The case interior is in good shape considering it is 80 years old. The retainers are all functional.
