GENERAL INFO

A stylish and unusual model from my collection, and thought to be the final high-end recording Walkman model ever to be released- the Sony Walkman WM-GX788! Released in 2004, it was the best available in the recording range at the time, and is notable for its attractive design and speed control feature. However, its good looks aren't its only strength- it also features an excellent playback sound quality, with clear treble and deep bass, and is able to record in true stereo from either the radio or a stereo audio input. It also features several unique features, such as half-speed recording for double recording time at a reduced quality. The mechanism has been fully serviced, calibrated, demagnetised and rebuilt by myself, and fitted with a new DeckTech belt. A remote controller is not required to use this model.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Cosmetic condition: Very good
      - Slight scratches externally, mainly on the door.
      - Beautifully styled machine, including a lensed window in the cassette door and 'holographic' jewel on the control pad.
      - Comes with original stickers.

Mechanical condition: Excellent
      - Plays and records as it did when new. Excellent clear, balanced sound quality. No audible wow/flutter.
      - Doesn't contain any electrolytic capacitors in the audio electronics, and is built to last far longer than a traditional
        Walkman
Head condition: Perfect (Sensitivity at 315hz)
      -------| Reverse side L:-0.4db |-------
      -------| Reverse side R:-0.5db |-------
------------------------------------------------------------------
      -------| Forward side R:-1.4db |-------
      -------| Forward side L:-1.4db |-------
A high number is good, but more consistent is best. Any difference between L/R smaller than 0.5db is considered inaudible.

Build Quality: Excellent
      - Very thick all-metal body, built to withstand a lot of abuse.
      - One of the only radio models to feature both front and back panels as metal.

Battery life: Very good
      - Around 70 hours playback (1400mah gumstick battery + AA battery)
                     90 hours radio playback
                     24 hours line-in recording
                     19 hours radio recording
      - This model uses slim 'gumstick' batteries. These aren't included, but can be found newly-made online for cheap. Search ebay for 'gumstick battery' (such as Doublepow, nicjoy, jinmasi, etc.)
