'Explorations & Adventures in Equatorial Africa' describes Paul Du Chaillu's discovery and confirmation of the existence of gorillas. He was the first modern European to confirm this, and also to confirm the Pygmy people of Central Africa. This discovery took place on an expedition that Chaillu took to Africa, lasting from 1855 to 1859. Before this, the existence of gorillas to Western scientists was known only by a few skeletons. On this trip, Chaillu brought back dead gorillas to study. The book discusses his experiences studying, exploring, and travelling in Africa.
