Frank Patterson (1871 - 1952) was the famous illustrator of cycling before the First War.  He did some automobile work for The Motor also Light Car magazines but very little has survived.  Hence this is a rare piece of original art from 1922 showing a car outside Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight.   The car appears to be a Morris Cowley Bullnose, unusually with disc covers on the wheels.

As with several other pieces of Patterson art the work has been trimmed at the top and top right.  When compilling a composite page of various illustrations Patterson would often trim the art so they could be pieced together..  This does not interfere with the sketch. The work is mounted on an art card backboard and has a cream bevelled mount with a visible size 24 x 17 cms.,  The overall size of the mountboard is 40 x 28 cm.

The art is signed and dated at low right 1922.

The drawing is part of a large collection of artwork built up over the last 45 years to act as reference for my website about art and artists -  www.motoringart.info look here to see more details about this artist.

As I reach the age of 80 it is time to sell so everything must go!
