1933 Vintage Press Photo.
England's most famous flying couple, James and Mrs. Amy Mollison, are completing preparations for one of the most daring flights ever attempted.  They plan to set three new records by flying non stop to New York; thence to Baghdad and back to Croyden, England.  If they are successful they will have made the first London to New York crossing; the first two way crossing of the Atlantic, and they will have set a new long distance flight record.
Photo shows them beside their giant new D.H. Dragon "Seafarer" Plane just before taking off on their first test flight at Croyden.

James Allan Mollison MBE was a Scottish pioneer aviator who, flying solo or with his wife, Amy Johnson, set many records during the rapid development of aviation in the 1930s.

Amy Johnson CBE was a pioneering English pilot who was the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia. Flying solo or with her husband, Jim Mollison, she set many long-distance records during the 1930s. In 1933, Katharine Hepburn's character in the film Christopher Strong was inspired by Johnson.
