Mousterian / Middle Paleolithic Neanderthal - South-west of France

According to context, the typology of the tool and the weathering of the material, this piece dates back to the beginning of the first half of the Mousterian period, just at the transition between Heidelbergensis and Neanderthal. 

Tool: large, nice, early Mousterian side scraper, made on a big flake by our ancestor Homo Neanderthalensis. 
Marks of use on the active part. Very beautiful patina!

This very nice piece is from an ancient French family collection. It has been found before the 1960's.
