I purchased a complete 52T set where a portion of the set had either been taped into a scrapbook or onto a wall using vinyl electrical tape--which is a first for me.  The cards were removed, along with the tape but the tape not only discolored the cards at the corners but left behind a crusty white residue and in some instances cards sustained paper loss from a less than gentle approach to removing the tape.  The key cards which had tape removed from them had been submitted to PSA where PSA mistakenly deemed them altered and graded them as Authentic Altered.  This is not at all accurate and PSA must have interpreted the white residue as an attempt to cover up staining or paper loss.

Upon getting the set it was immediately clear PSA was incorrect in their conclusion and it was abundantly obvious the white residue was not an attempt to make the card appear better but remnants from the vinyl tape.  With very little effort I was able to gently remove the crusty residue by carefully scraping it off without removing any paper.  No secret solvents were needed...not even water.  Each card that this was done to took less than a couple mins.

The Mantle was resubmitted and oddly came back as Authentic.  I feel this card merits the 1 grade however for Set Registry purposes, a PSA Authentic will default to a PSA 1 for the score on the set.  A review of the card was requested, which was done by one of the head graders, and he stated there was simply too much paper loss to give the card a 1.  Any other grading company would give this card a 1.  PSA had two chances to grade this card right and they missed both times, in my opinion.

If I have not provided a back scan it is because the back is centered consistent with the grade and free of defects.  If a back scan is still needed, in most cases this can be obtained by visiting PSA or SCG's website and entering the cert number on their homepage.  Any questions, please send a message.  Please see scan below.
