Here is one new in the original beat up box ,RCA 12AX7  tube.  It has the wide 17mm grey plates and top slanted D shaped getter.Some of the delicate lettering is worn off .The box has a date code of 5-57.I tested the tube on my Hickok 600 mutual conductance tube tester and it reads new,strong and balanced at  (1700-1800) micromhos ,where (1250-1250) micromhos is the average reading of new 12AX7 tubes given on the roll chart. It has no shorts or gas.Your tube tester readings may be different than mine ,but this tube tests new.
