Description

For sale is a bond certificate for the railroad line between Warsaw, Poland and Vienna, Austria. It is dated 1890 and for 120 Russian Rubles gold. The bond paid 4% interest. Included with the bond is a separate sheet containing 6 bond interest payment coupons. Language on the bond is in Russian, German and French.

Poland, at the time, was under Russian control, and this was the first major long-distance rail line undertaken by the Tsarist regime. The railroad formed the Russian-Polish part of the line connecting Warsaw, Vienna and Berlin. It was largely destroyed during World War II but rebuilt afterwards. It is now part of the Polish State Railways.

It has been once-folded. The bond coupon sheet measures appx 11 x 5 1/2 inches and is likewise on thin paper. It, too, is in very good condition, with no rips, tears, writing or markings. There are 2 fold lines.
