"On the Alert" is a vintage print that may be the work of R. Atkinson Fox.  Fox did have a print titled "On the Alert", but it is not this image.  The work in the print does look very similar to that of Fox.  R. Atkinson Fox (1860-1935) was a prolific illustrator of calendars, posters, postcards, picture puzzles, and advertising material from the late 1900s until about 1930.  Naturalism was considered Fox's strength as a painter.  He was especially admired for his paintings of landscape, horses, cows and mountains.  Fox's work has been popular among collectors for decades, even spawning "The R.A. Fox Society", a group dedicated to his work.

"On the Alert" shows two springer hunting dogs. It is 6.5" x 9.5" in overall size and is in fair condition. There is wear on the edges, especially in the lower left corner.  There is a hole in the upper middle center where the print was hung, and there is scribbling on the back. The paper is a heavy but flexible card stock.  Please use the included photos as a condition guide.

Chuck Olson Collection

Chuck Olson spent over 40 years collecting and traveling the United States in search of unique vintage prints.  He was especially interested in prints that were printed for use on calendars in the "Age of the Calendar" from 1900-1960. Chuck amassed a collection of well over 10,000 framed and unframed prints before his death.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the item.
