Up for auction and fresh to the market from a fine old estate comes this Original Woodblock print by well-known Japanese artist Joichi Hoshi (1913-1979).

It's called "Evening Secene" and was printed in 1976. Hoshi like to use metallics in his prints, so this tree print has some gold metallic highlights in it as I’ve tried to capture in the photos. It is Artist signed in pencil and dated. It also contains the artists tree stamp mark in the lower right corner within the print (see photo).

The Frame measures approx. 11-1/4" by 8-1/2".  The Print itself is 7-3/4" by 5-1/2" Great Tree print!

The frame appears to have been glued on the bottom left corner from a former repair. Overall it is in decent condition but shows some wear from age and handling.

The print appears to have a slight imperfection near the title in the lower left but is otherwise in excellent condition. The print is titled “夕景” which translates to “An evening scene” and the imperfection is directly to the right of the title. I have pictured this for your reference.

I did reattach the print to the mat. I left the original tape but added some additional linen acid free hinging tape to secure the print since the original has dried out.

Framed with non-reflective glass and matted by Kandos in Tokyo. See the photos for the writing on the matting material and on the back of the print. M789B is written throughout and could be a catalog number for reference.
