Vintage 20" x 12" John Grey & Sons BROADWAY Bass Drum Blue Oyster Pearl 1960's
This John Grey & Sons Broadway Bass Drum is quite unusual in that it has Blue Oyster Pearl wrap fitted to the bottom half of each Bass Drum Lug either side. At a guess, I would think that this was carried out by a previous owner / enthusiast rather that at the factory but whoever carried it out, it is a professional job and makes it unique
The Blue Oyster Pearl wrap is in excellent condition for it's age with barely a scratch or mark
The John Grey Bass Drum Lugs are in very good condition although there are some scratches and marks and the chrome has some minute bubbling in places but not noticeable from a few feet away
The Bass Drum comes with a Premier Mounted Tom mounting plate and a Premier Cymbal Arm mounting bracket. It also has the original John Grey Cymbal Arm mounting bracket at the front of the Bass Drum
The original John Grey Birch Wood Bass Drum Hoops are not present and have been replaced with 2 Steel
Chrome 20" Bass Drum Hoops. An inlay of Blue Oyster Pearl or another colour could be added by the new owner if desired
The Original John Grey & Sons T-Rods & Claws are also not present and have been replaced with Pearl T-Rods & Claws
The Bass Drum Spur Bracket and Bass Drum Legs are also not original but are fitted with 2 generic types which are very functional and fast and easy to operate for setting up and taking down
A 20" PREMIER front Resonant Head with Port Hole has been fitted and note how the standard international size Head overlaps the bearing edge which says that the Bass Drum is of pre-international size. This overlap resembles a Tama Gong Bass Drum to some extent and there is a lot of low end tone to this Bass Drum
The Kick Side Head is a Premier Everplay Gold label Head which did have a split at the bottom on the collar. We have repaired this split with a certain type of glue and some tape for added strength. The Head had a lot of scrapes and scratches so we sprayed the Head white with 3 coats of white gloss paint
The John Grey & Sons badge has worn due to age
It is a fully functional Bass Drum as it is and sounds very resonant
