An early Spode coffee cup and saucer – pattern 312.
To paint this intricate pattern of cornucopias full of roses and forget-me-nots inside the cup
was an art in itself, very difficult to execute and with such precision.
The cup measures approximately 6.5cm high x 4.2cm base diameter x 7.2cm rim diameter.
The saucer measures approximately 14cm in diameter.
Pattern number ‘312’ was first introduced in c.1803 and the ‘London’ shape cup in 1813.
Hand painted mark ‘Spode 312’ in red on the cup with serifs on the ‘S’.
Hand painted ‘Spode 312’ in black script on the saucer.
The unequalled quality of Spode’s bone china can be seen in the purest translucent white –
please see the last two photos taken against the light.
It is in very good condition – no chips, cracks or repairs; short surface scratches on the saucer;
very slight gilt loss to the saucer; small pin prick/ kiln dust on the inside base.
My photos form an important part of the description so please take time and look at them all.
An absolutely stunning item for a dedicated Spode collector or collector of cabinet teawares.
