LR Baggs was one of the pioneers of the use of discrete, Class A circuitry for acoustic guitar with the original Microdrive miniature onboard preamp.
The all discrete Class A Micro Drive II incorporates several new circuit developments and features. This includes a new DC coupled input stage with a hand-selected FET, and a new FET output driver stage. No negative feedback is used anywhere in the circuit. To minimize distortion and noise we use as few parts in the signal path as possible. In fact, there are only three transistors in the entire signal path. Contrast this with the more commonly seen op-amp based preamps, where the signal passes through multiple Class AB op-amps, each using massive feedback and containing dozens of noisy, distorting transistors.
The Micro Drive II Preamp is designed for use with the L.R. Baggs Classic LB6 Series Pickup (included), but it is compatible with most other piezo ceramic pickups. We do not, however, guarantee optimum performance with any other pickup.
We recommend that the Micro Drive II Preamp be attached to the inside side of the guitar on the straight spot just above the waist. This will make it possible to use the optional Remote Control Module and facilitate replacement of the battery.
Includes L.R. Baggs' optional Remote Control accessory #307165), making it a good choice for players who want to use the Remote Control to provide onboard volume and bass controls. This accessory plugs into the preamp and mounts nondestructively onto the edge of the soundhole, without the need to cut any holes in your guitar for knobs.
