Subaru Impreza Turbo RB5 WR Sport – Prodrive

Limited Edition, Top of the Range…

The 4th UK special edition was called the RB5 to celebrate Richard Burns joining Subaru WRC team – Number 5 is the car number he drove in. There were only 444 RB5’s constructed. Blue Steel Metallic paint, contoured Alcantara and Jersey front seats, air conditioning driving lights, Momo steering  wheel, leather Prodrive gearshift & handbrake.

This car is a special edition of the special edition – It is the WR Sport version. In addition to the standard RB5 it has a high level special edition spoiler and special edition dials embossed with WR Sport (this is how you really tell the difference from a standard RB5). It also has the Prodrive Performance Pack – Upgraded power, exhaust & revised cooling.

It is totally standard and unmodified from the factory – Even the Prodrive kit was specified from new.

The engine still pulls like a train! It’s power is still intoxicating!

The Check Engine light someotimes comes on for no obvious reason to us – possibly because the fan belt sounds as though its slipping – although just a guess and it could be something more serious.

The bodywork and underside is where the issues mainly lie. As can be seen in the photos, every panel has an issue and it requires lots of bodywork repairs. Notably the rear arches are extremely poor – we are going to include replacement arches in the sale. Underside issues are reported in the MOT as advisories – rear subframe & front suspension arms are corroded.

Recently, the steering rack and/or steering pump have failed and the steering is verging on dangerous now. It can be driven and I recently drove from Brighton to Shoreham at high speed myself although it is a little unnerving.

The bodywork is causing leaks and the interior becomes wet if left uncovered. The front floors are wet. There is some mould in the car, notibly the sun visors. The drivers side mirror doesn't stay in place and the rear number plate lights are hanging off due to corrosion. The rear arches are severely corroded and the bumper may fall off soon as a result.

This car can be driven now but does requires extensive repairs. It would no doubt suit someone with the experience to bring this car back to its former glory.

MOT to 24th August – every MOT included in documents

Full Service History / FSH… We have every receipt from first 7500 mile service to date. Engine rebuilt by Subaru under warranty at 94k miles in 2006 – we have receipt. Cambelt changed at 186k miles, in 2016 we have receipt.

Only 3 owners from new… First owned by a friend in 1999, owned for 4 years. Purchased by me in 2003, owned for 12 years. Given to my wife in 2015, owned for 9 years.

I used the car instead of  company car for several years, hence the high mileage – 205k. Most of the mileage was at easy cruising speed on motorways, with economy in mind!

Comes with…

Documentation from new, including purchase receipt for £26,500, original manual & ProDrive certificate, all tax discs, MOT’s, etc.

Spare floor matt’s, a used spare boot (yellow colour), new RB5 decals/stickers, new rear wings & some door seals.

Selling as the car needs significant work to keep it on the road and we just don’t have the funds. Also, the car has hardly been used and has done around 1500 miles a year for the past few years. It will be a sad day to see it go.

Car is sold as seen, no returns, as although it is running it clearly needs attention and a good new home. We’d also like first refusal to buy the car back if it is fully restored and put up for sale in the future!
