Superb antique real Whitby jet Victorian brooch, dating from circa 1870s-90s. It is beautifully carved into a shiny scallop shell shape, a symbol of a pilgrim’s journey, or birth and resurrection. The clasp is glued to the back, this is a sign of genuine jet, as the material cannot be drilled and screws were never used. It also tests positive for jet by leaving a brown streak when rubbed on an unglazed surface. It is lightweight and warm to the touch as jet always is. A nice quality piece, well made and detailed. Please see the photos and item specifics for more info.

Approx length 3.5 x 4 cm
Small item. See with hand or ruler for scale.

CONDITION:
Good antique condition. A little age-related wear, but nothing serious. See photos for details.

POSTAGE NOTES (UK):
I offer combined shipping for UK buyers. If you buy more than one item at the same time, I will refund any excess postage once I know the cost. Alternatively put your items in the basket then request a total. I send all items well-packed via a tracked service, usually Royal Mail for small items. Large or heavy items go via courier. Any variation in postage price is due to item size and the type of packing needed to protect it. I try to keep my P&P fees down and do not profit from them.

POSTAGE NOTES (NON-UK):
I post outside the UK using eBay’s Global Shipping Program (GSP). Note that I cannot combine postage for non-UK buyers, as GSP does not permit it. If you want several items, don’t buy them individually. Either put your items in the basket then request a total. If this is not possible (it does not always work), contact me via eBay and I can make a bundle of the items for a single shipping fee. The shipping fees are set and charged by eBay and include customs and taxes. I have no control over them, and do not receive any profit from them.
