This product is a vintage Japanese Kokeshi wooden doll set, specifically the Emperor and Empress. The dolls are made of lacquered wood and are decorated with Ouchi-Nuri style lacquerware. The dolls are multi-colored and were made post-1940 by the maker Ouchi Lacquer Ware. The 2 inch dolls are from Japan.
