Gemmy Twinned Zoned Fluorite Crystal Cluster XL Display Specimen - Heights Quarry, Weardale

A superb display specimen of Flourite from classic Heights Quarry in Weardale. The specimen has well formed gemmy Fluorite crystals mostly up to 11mm. There is one larger frosted crystal on the side up to 23mm. Most of the crystals are twinned. The crystals show as clear, green and purple zoned in artificial light, and a more rich purple in natural light.

As is typical of most Weardale Fluorites, there is a difference in colour between natural and artificial light due to its property of fluorescing under UV light and the pictures show the crystal under both types of light for comparison (the first 9 photos are in natural light).

The Fluorite crystals mainly measure up to 11mm on the longest edge, with one measuring 23mm. The cluster as a whole measures 19 x 11 x 6.5cm and weighs 1110g. (All weights and measures are approximate).

This piece comes from a from a lifelong collector of minerals who mainly self-collected from all over the world and the UK, and he collected this specimen in 1991.
