Morgan's Louisiana & Texas Railroad & Steam Ship Company

Original early 20th century railroad lantern from Morgan's Louisiana And Texas Rail Road And Steam Ship Company, Adlake "tall globe" stamped steel and heavy gauge wire construction with unmarked red glass globe and steel fuel oil pot with brass burner/wick housing and knob. Well marked M.L. & T. R.R. & S.S.CO. on reverse side of ventilator skirt. ADLAKE marked on underside of oil pot cup and also marked ADLAKE on wick control knob. Lantern has been repainted black at some point and there is a dent to the upper left edge of ventilator where paint has flaked off [see photos], and there appears to be quite a bit of average surface rust to frame under the paint, otherwise undamaged and all moving parts operate smoothly with no problems. No chips, cracks, or other damage to globe. Lantern is still somewhat dusty, exactly as it was found, but will clean much better.

The M.L. & T. R.R. & S.S.Co. was chartered in 1878 and ran from Algiers [on the west bank of the Mississippi River opposite New Orleans] to Lafayette, with numerous short branch lines running to Thibodaux, Breaux Bridge, New Iberia, and other towns throughout the Acadiana region, serving the sugar planters and salt industry in the area. Morgan City, another area location served by the railroad, was named after the company's founder, Charles Morgan. The company ceased to exist when it became part of the Texas and New Orleans Railway in 1930. Rare piece for any collector of Louisiana railroad memorabilia and is in very good condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
