This is a very heavy disko metal pipe stand! Actually a double pipe stand with male cherub or boy figural motif.

Think about it. How many cherubs have you ever seen with actual genitalia? Unless on a fountain type statue, it just was not often done. But when your former boss and primary competitor is George Jensen, you might want to distinguish yourself with what must have been a very radical decision. Especially in the Victorian era when modesty was king!

Just Anderson had to have struggled with the decision to make his pipe holder cherub a male gender undisputed! This may be one of his rarest pieces! I could not find it anywhere despite weeks of searching out all that I could about this great artist. This should be in a museum!

Also, the design of the two pipe holders resembles a pair of testicles! Coincidence?

Pipe smoking was probably considered a manly habit….

It is signed “ JUST” within a capital letter (A) and has a #2345.

Just Anderson was a danish, decorative sculpture and silversmith. Andersen studied at the Royal Academy of art in Copenhagen. Upon finishing school, he designed works for Georg Jensen, and then 1918 opened his own Silversmith company. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of art in New York among others. He was born 1884 and died 1943.Just Andersen invented disko metal because it made decorative arts more affordable, cheaper than bronze! He took the recipe with him to his early grave as he died at age 59.
