Local postcard sent on 12/6/1922 and received 12/7/1922, franked with two pairs of the last 5K Tsarist arms issue which had been revalued by the Soviets at 5 Rubles each. The domestic postcard rate of 20 rubles was in effect for only one month in 1922 (12/1 – 12/31). Inflation was rampant and required frequent adjustment of postal rates, as well as the repurposing of obsolete postage. Interesting inflation-related message mentions the current price of fruit-flavored lozenges (Mонпансье – Montpensier) “5 pounds costs 1250 rubles”. The writer states that he has a supply at home for sale and complains that the bakery where he worked had gone out of business and he was again out of work. “Of course, those who sucked up got to stay but not with the bakery because that business collapsed.” Winter scene on front with bit of foxing. Upper left corner (front) creased. Some corner and edge wear. Very scarce and interesting piece of Soviet postal history. See scans for detail.
