This is made from wool , gold thread , leather and genuine brass buttons 

I don't believe there is anything man made on this such as PVC or nylon. 

The brass has all tarnished with age so gives it a little realism of age. 

The chin strap can used as it would have back in the day, it can be folded down around the chin or fastened back up top of the peak
