 Known by the common name Erté (Ert), the French pronunciation of his initials

 [.te], from the French pronunciation of his initials.

 A versatile 20th-century artist, Ert is known for his work in fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costume, and stage design,

 He was a designer in a wide range of fields, including fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costumes, stage design, and interior decorating.


Biography

 1892 Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, the son of a general.

 1912 Goes to Paris to study art.

     Studied at the Académie Julian, where he became a history painter,

     Studied at the Académie Julian with the history painter Jean-Paul Rolland.

 1915 First cover design and interior page in Herber's Bazaar.

     and interior design pages of Harbors Bazaar,

     This was the beginning of a 22-year collaboration between the two magazines.

 1967 The Metropolitan Museum of Art purchased 170 of his works.

 1968 Produced his first lithographs.

 1970: Awarded the title of “Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French government.

 1976 He was awarded the title of Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

 1977 Awarded the Ziegfeld Prize for Excellence in New York.

 1978 Awarded the Eugene O'Neill Foundation Prize in New York

 1982 Awarded the Vermeille Prize of the City of Paris

 1985 Awarded the Région d'honneur de France

 1989 Honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art.

 1990 Died in Paris on April 21. He was 97 years old.
