I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a new, full-size copy of my original PLAN & construction article to build a 45" span MOONEY MITE FF or RC model by Walt Mooney.

Here is Walt Mooney's famous 45" span free flight scale model of the famous PAA MOONEY MITE that was published in 1956. The color shot in the Pan American Airways color scheme is from the cover of a 1955 Air Trails Hobbies for Young Men magazine.

Dallas Sherman at Pan Am used their tiny, colorfully painted MOONEY MITE to advertise the airline's sponsorship of the PAA payload model free flight events at the AMA National contest in 1957.

Walt's model called for a McCoy .049 diesel engine but in a modern RC version. I recommend a throttled Cox Golden Bee or an Enya or OS .09. All the necessary parts patterns are clearly shown on the new copy of my original PLAN which has the hinge lines shown on the rudder and stabilizer---making RC conversion easy. It took 2 years of searching to find a copy of the original construction article. I include a copy of this article as well.

Old Timer Musing: Jetco produced a MOONEY MITE kit later on by Walt Mooney with a 45" span. This kit manufacturer took the model designer's plan and re-engineered things in order to use shorter pieces of balsa that would fit into shorter boxes that were used to save shipping costs and hobby shop shelf depth. (An example of this is Carl Goldberg's great free flight designs---which had full length sheet sides---were re-engineered to have the sides cut in the middle in a sawtooth pattern and then the two shorter pieces were to be glued together in the middle. This also resulted in multiple plan sheets in the kit where only one large plan sheet was needed from a magazine.)

My last picture was taken at the Southern Museum of Flight with my friend showing it to his grandchildren. This shows just how tiny the actual airplane is.

I have a very large packet of original documents for the MOONEY MITE model and actual airplane. As a BONUS I include a copy of an Air Trails Pictorial pilot report, Robert McLarren’s 1948 MAN article, and Model Aviation’s Scale Fidelity Sheet. You’ll not find a more thorough offering.

I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a new, full-size copy of this classic FF PLAN, the construction article, & scale documentation.

YOU ARE PURCHASING A NEW, FULL-SIZE COPY OF THE PLAN AND THE CONSTRUCTION ARTICLE AND SCALE DOCUMENTATION ALL FOLDED AND IN A MANILA ENVELOPE.

I DO NOT INCLUDE ANY COLOR COPIES OF THESE COLOR PICTURES I HAVE USED. THEY ARE USED FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY.
