Naive at it's best. Full length
figure, body natural stance of the willow and flat thin wood feet. Hand
carved from diamond willow wood, early 20th c. This piece has spent
much of it's life in storage and came from the Canada / Minnesota line.
We were told it was done by a local Native American. There is an early
porcelain socket for a light screwed down on the top of the head. Shaved
down to size by hand and screwed into the willow. The cord end was bad
and needs replacing.
The right shade would make this a very wonderful piece for the lodge or
cabin, antique Americana and folk-art decor. This carving measures
approx. 20 1/2 inches tall x 11 inches deep on the feet x 4" wide.
Definitely a conversation piece, enjoy its unique design and cultural significance.
