Three volumes. 57 engraved plates including one of a Camelopard and Dodo, some foxing, quite extensive to the pages preceding and after the plates with offsetting quite marked in places. Contemporary elegant and simple fine binding with gilt text and decoration. A very handsome set.

Oliver Goldsmith (1728–1774) was an Irish novelist, playwright and poet, who is best known for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766), his pastoral poem The Deserted Village (1770), and his plays The Good-Natur'd Man (1768) and She Stoops to Conquer (1771, first performed in 1773). He is thought to have written the classic children's tale The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes (1765).

Other works include Account of the Augustan Age in England (1759); The Life of Richard Nash (Beau Nash) (1762); The History of England, from the Earliest Times to the Death of George II in 4 volumes (1771); Dr. Goldsmith's Roman History Abridged by Himself for the Use of Schools (1772); An History of the Earth and Animated Nature (1774).

• Spine – good condition – gilt titles to red labels and Vol numbers to green labels, 5 raised bands, 6 compartments heavily decorated in gilt, worn top and tail and to the raised bands.
• Joints – good condition – rubbed and worn.
• Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.
• Boards – good condition – full leather boards with gilt filet border, all volumes have some scratches and minor marks.
• Page edges – good condition – top edges slightly darkened, all marbled.

• Hinges – good condition – all intact.
• Paste downs – good condition – all marbled.
• End papers – good condition – all marbled, some pencil annotation.
• Title – good condition – foxed in all volumes.
• Pages – good condition – numerous illustrations throughout the three volumes, tanned with some offsetting and foxing, offsetting severe to pre and post pages to some plates.
