1957 Honorable Mention Award at the 4th Japan International Art Exhibition

1958 Group award at the Guggenheim International Art Exhibition

1961 Solo exhibition held in New York

1966 Became a professor at Tama Art University and taught there until 1972.

1973 5th Japan Art Award

1974 Shinsei Kyokai Japanese Painting Department becomes independent, Sogakai is established, and becomes a member of the association.

1980 30th Minister of Education Award for Art Encouragement

1984 “Kayama Matazo Complete Print Collection 1955-1984” published

2003 Order of Culture

2004 Passed away in Tokyo (age 76)
