After fighting for the U.S.A. in several wars, Nick Fury became a spy for the French government before returning to his home as a C.I.A. operative. When the international intelligence organization S.H.I.E.L.D. was formed, Fury was appointed as its top agent, saving the world on countless occasions from the tyranny of subversive societies like A.I.M. and Hydra.
