Marvel Mini-Bust by Bowen Designs
"CAPTAIN BRITAIN" -- (70s Version)

Excerpted from The Marvel Universe's Guide to Britain:  Take a magical mystery tour of the British Isles, a land interspersed with ancient megaliths and standing stones.  Once there, journey to the site of an event steeped in arcane power: the transformation of physics student Brian Braddock into the hero incarnate of his native land, Captain Britain.  This momentous occasion occurred in the Marvel U.K. imprint Captain Britain Weekly #1 (October 1976), when Braddock was nearly fatally injured in a motorcycle accident that occurred when he fled from an attack on his research center by the supervillain The Reaver.  As he lay dying, he was granted a vision of the wizard Merlin and the Goddess of the Northern Skies, who informed him that he could return to life if he agreed to become Britain's new champion.  Braddock agreed, whereupon he was offered a choice between two great artifacts: the Amulet of Right and the Sword of Might.

Braddock, who considered himself more intellectual than physical, chose the Amulet, which infused him with incredible strength and stamina.  Merlin also bequeathed him a miraculous mace, the Star Scepter, which granted him the power of flight and the ability to generate force fields.  Now dubbed Captain Britain, Braddock went on to fight evil and injustice, first in his native land, then internationally, until ultimately taking part in interdimensional crusades.  Before these more cosmic adventures, however, Captain Britain was given a wardrobe change by Merlin.  Gone was the golden lion rampant of England, to be replaced with a stylized Union Jack on white background.  But the difference in attire did not lie solely on the surface, for via a process of sorcery and super-science, the eldritch energies of the Amulet and the Star Scepter were channeled directly into the updated costume, enhancing Britain's powers to an even greater degree.  Clad in his advanced uniform, Captain Britain went on to take part in some truly epic quests, not least among them the formation of the premiere team of superheroes found in the whole of Great Britain - the legendary assembly of warriors collectively known as Excalibur!
