Here for your consideration is a magnificent and exquisite, Moorcroft, Woodside farm, large 21" baluster vase, shape number 72/20 designed by Anji Davenport, circa 1999-2004.

Moorcroft designers are often asked for details of their current ideas on design. There is nothing particularly regular about the requests, which are more spontaneous than organised. Anji Davenport's particular response to a request made in early spring of 1999 was a design totally different from anything ever produced by Moorcroft pottery in its 100 year history.

Against a bleak winter landscape covered with fine snow, foxes, cattle, and sheep, could be seen slinking across the fields. For the first time, a countryside range designed with the innate emotions of a farmer’s daughter, Anji Davenport, captured the very spirit of winter. Anji returns with this large prestige offering to excite the senses.

Woodside farm has now grown, more farm buildings have been erected and a vicarage now supports the church. This time the foxes have a new friend, and a barn owl oversees the quiet rumblings of a Massey Ferguson tractor. Sheep and cows quietly go about their business under a setting sun, and the walker can enjoy his wanderings amongst the sharpened colours of the tubelining. In the morning, the glistening white snow may no longer hark to this romantic rural idyll. For now, all can bask in the wonderful colours and imagery on this prestige large vase.

Since then, Woodside farm has become one of the most iconic/famous patterns ever to be produced by Moorcroft pottery.

This vase has the painted and impressed factory marks to the base 'Moorcroft made in England’ Circa 1999. A magnificent, Moorcroft, large Woodside Farm 72/20 vase that has no chips, cracks, scratches, restoration, or crazing (First quality) Just a stunning piece of beautiful and very impressive Moorcroft pottery.

This piece depicting a snow-covered scene from Woodside farm is certainly Anji's most famous work to date. A truly magnificent piece of pottery, basically an antique of the future. This is only going to increase in value in years to come.

Those of us collectors who now and again show a passing interest in the secondary market will understand what I mean when I say that Woodside farm (1999-2004) has served its owners well with some very pleasing increases in value.

That however is not a reason to sing the praises of Woodside farm. Far more important is the fact that, as a design, it broke new ground. Truth to tell, it was not really a design at all but a landscape picture easily understood by anyone with even a fleeting experience of the countryside, its moods, its beauty, and its everlasting longevity.

What we had not expected was that Woodside farm would evolve into a cult design, much loved to this day by Antique dealers, collectors, and retailers alike.

The Woodside farm Collection shows the snow-covered hills, gaunt, leafless trees, dry stone walls and a chilly dawn sky with foxes in the winter, you can even see the lights on in the farmhouse. These images are all familiar and act as a magnet not only to me but also to other collectors for whom the open countryside means so much. Woodside farm features all these familiar images, the fascination rolls on, just like the winter hills, included in the designer’s landscape.

Whoever purchases this vase will certainly not be disappointed. A truly stunning piece of 21” Moorcroft pottery. We had two of these vases and this one is actually, from our my own collection.

These stunning vases have become so very desirable/collectable and are only going to appreciate in value since being illustrated in Fraser Street's Moorcroft book "Winds of Change” on page 167.

A very highly sought-after large baluster vase that would make a superb gift.
