• Spine – good condition – gilt titles on red labels, 6 gilt bands dividing 5 gilt decorated compartments, bruised top and tail, worn and marked.
• Joints – good condition – sound, rubbed.
• Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.
• Boards – good condition – half vellum/marbled boards, signs of general wear to the marbled boards.
• Page edges – good condition – top edges slightly darkened, some foxing to the fore and bottom edges.

Internally

• Hinges – good condition – sound.
• Paste downs – good condition – both front pastedowns have a bookplate of William Long and they both also have the signature of William Long dated Rome 1866.
• End papers – good condition – lightly tanned with some foxing to the internal end papers.

• Pages – good condition – pages are tanned and foxed throughout.
• Binding – good condition – sound.
