!Second chance! (previous winning bidder did not pay in time)

This is a vintage handbag that is a Clear Lucite plastic with some change from original color due to age. I do not see any cracks.  Has some imperfections: missing one of Rhinestones accent around the handle hinge.

History of PURSES FROM THE ATOMIC AGE

These dazzling geometric gems epitomize the futuristic optimism and thoroughly modern mindset of the postwar boom years.

In the late 1940s, a new plastic called Lucite was introduced. Lucite purses were produced by noted designers such as Rialto, Llewellyn, Patricia of Miami, Wilardy, Miami Handbags, and Myles Originals, and were sold for as little as $5 to $75. "Women of all ages carried these bags, now works of art," says Frank Maresca, coauthor with Robert Gottlieb of A Certain Style, The Art of the Plastic Handbag 1949-59 (Knopf). "They were made in shapes such as beehives, lanterns, and hatboxes, and embellished with rhinestones, colored glass, pearls, and shells."

Women would line them with a scarf, then hide their purse’s contents inside the scarf. Because she could change scarves to match her outfits, a woman only needed one purse (at least in theory). So clear handbags actually sold very well.
