The Perth Mint has been striking the popular Lunar series of silver coins since 1999. The coins are dedicated to the 12-year Chinese lunar calendar. Production of the first series of silver coins ended in 2007, after series I Lunar Series gold coins were produced from 1996 to 2007. The Perth Mint has produced Series II coins since 2008.

Lunar Series silver coins range in weight from 1/2 ounce (the smallest) to a giant coin weighing 10 kg.
