This attractive map encompasses the nascent United States, stretching to encompass a significant portion of the Louisiana Territory and a section of New Mexico, while also featuring parts of eastern Canada and the Bahamas. Along the Rio del Norte, it offers intricate details including Taos and Santa Fe, and it meticulously labels various Indian villages and tribal territories. Throughout the map, extensive annotations highlight early explorers like De Soto and La Salle, as well as Indian nations, forts, and other historically significant locations. Notably, the map includes a text block listing the original 13 states with their capitals and introduces ten proposed new states from the Jeffersonian Ordinance of 1784, such as Silvania, Michigania, Chersonesus, Arsenistpia, Metropotamia, Illinoia, Saratoga, Washington, Polypotamia, and Pelisypia, marking the earliest reference to Michigan as a U.S. land division.
